​Holding provisions of the Savannah Cat

Holding provisions – In Germany is the condition F1-F4 Savannah cats need an outdoor enclosure of at least 25 or 50 square meters.

The obligation to register is only required in certain federal states, in Bavaria and Austria an F1-F4 Savannah is classified as a dangerous animal, which is subject to approval.

Mammal expert opinion

“Due to the pronounced wildlife characteristics, the requirements of the BMELV opinion on minimum requirements for the keeping of mammals of 10 June 1996 must be used for a species-appropriate husbandry up to and including the F4 generation for the interpretation of § 2 TierSchG .. Both Savannah cats and Caracats ( Hybrid cats) up to and including the fourth offspring generation fall under the protection of species law (see also http://www.cites.org/eng/res/10/10-17R14.php) .Thus, they are protected species as wild animals for a purebred serval or caracal, ie for the attitude of Savannah cats and Caracats of the F1 to F4 generation, the requirements of the mammal report apply. “

This means that the following conditions apply to the keeping of hybrid cats throughout Germany: An outdoor enclosure of at least 50 square meters with a height of 2.50 meters. See page 174 in animal welfare opinion on minimum requirements for keeping mammals.

Medium sized small cats such as golden cat (Caracal aurata, Pardofelis temminckii), ocelot (Leopardus pardalis), fish cat (Prionailurus viverrinus), caracal (Caracal caracal), serval (Leptailurus serval), red (Lynx rufus) and canyon (Lynx canadensis)
Outdoor enclosure: At least 50 m2 for 1 animal or 1 pair, temporarily subdivided into interconnected individual enclosures, which must be at least 25 m2 for a single animal and at least 50 m2 for a young mother, or must have separation enclosures as specified in Chapter II.1.3 ; for climbing species at least 2.50 m in height.
Indoor enclosure, if required: 20 m2 or 50 m3 per pair; in all cases 2.5 m height, divisible as described for outdoor enclosures.

According to French Savannah cats breeders, the Serval must be kept only with expertise and permits. There are no statutory regulations for Savannah cats.

Norway

Norway ban the generation F1 to F4. The F5 generation and later generations are allowed (considered "domesticated").

Finland

Ban on the keeping of hybrid cats Hybrid cats are descendants of crosses of wild cats with domestic cats. These are only from the 5th generation of offspring no longer considered as wild animals and therefore may not be kept until this generation. ... The attitude of Savannah, Caracat and Bengalkatze to the 4th generation of offspring is banned in Austria.

No statutory regulations for hybrid cats.

Belgium

For the keeping of F1 Savannah cats, a wildcat license is required in Belgium.

Czechia

No statutory regulations for hybrid cats.

Sweden

Sweden ban the generation F1 to F4. The F5 generation and later generations are allowed (considered "domesticated").

Italiy

No statutory regulations for hybrid cats.

Spain

No statutory regulations for hybrid cats.
